    1. Once you have finished the cut list above, use the attached cutting guide (two sections for Fabric A and Fabric B) to learn which strips to sew together in sections of three. Remember to sew all quilt pieces with the right sides together and press the sections flat as you go with your iron.
    2. Once the strips are sewn together, continue to reference the guide to see how many to cut out of each section.
    3. When you have all of your vertical 3 piece sections ready, piece together each to form your 9 patch squares according to the attached pattern layout.
    4. Next stitch together your 9 patch sections with your pre-cut out 6" squares to create the entire front section of the quilt. Press flat.
    5. Sandwich your backing fabric, batting and quilt top together with the right sides of the quilt facing out. Make sure all fabrics are laid out evenly and perfectly flat.
    6. Use safety pins to pin all layers together.
    7. Quilt the layers together by stitching along the top of the seam lines (stitch in the ditch style). In addition you can also stitch diagonally across the solid small squares to give more texture and puckering.
    8. When you are done quilting, make sure to cut off any excess fabric hanging off the edge of the quilt and use your rotary cutter, board and ruler to square off the sides and make it a perfect rectangle.
    9. Attach the 5 binding strips together to form one long strip. This is done by stitching them together along the short edges. Do this by laying them in an L shape with the right sides together and stitching a diagonal line from the top left corner to the bottom right corner of the overlapping section. Press seams open. Repeat to attach each strip.
    10. Fold the binding strip in half lengthwise with the wrong sides together and press.
    11. To attach the binding to your quilt, line up the raw edges of the top of your quilt with the raw edges of your folded binding piece (right sides together). Leave approx. 4" of the binding undone as you start so that when you finish stitching around the perimeter you can tuck some of the excess binding into this opening and do a final stitch over it.
    12. Fold the binding around to the back of the quilt and use your needle and thread to do an invisible stitch around the perimeter. All raw edges will now be hidden and the quilt is finished.

    JOANN HACKS:

    • As you stitch your squares and piece together the quilt, make sure to square-off/even out the fabric. Having 90 degree edge squares that are all the same size will help to keep the quilt even and flat.
