Advanced Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Wreath
  • White chalk paint
  • Stencil brush
  • Various bird houses
  • Acrylic paint - various colors
  • Large flat brush
  • Medium round brush
  • Detail brush
  • Bottle brush trees
  • Dye kit
  • Hot glue gun/glue
  • Greenery picks
  • Peg people
  • Wire cutters
  • Zip ties (2 per house)
  • Drill with drill bit
  • Zip lock bag
  • Gloves
  • Paper towels

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Flock the wreath using a large stencil brush and white chalk paint to add a snow look to the wreath. Set aside to dry.
  2. Base paint the bird houses and peg people working on the background colors. Set aside to dry.
  3. While the base paint is drying dye the bottle brush trees. Add dye to a plastic bag, add the tree to the bag to completely submerge it in dye. Remove the tree from the bag letting the excess dye drip off. Dap off any excess with a paper towel. Set aside to dry.
  4. Add details to the peg people and bird houses while the trees are drying.
  5. Drill 2 holes in the back of the birdhouse approximately 1" apart. Thread the end of a zip tie through the holes, attach another zip tie if needed. Secure the zip ties around the frame of the wreath to hold the birdhouses in place. Space them evenly around the wreath.
  6. Hot glue a peg person on the front porch of the house.
  7. Using wire cutters, cut down the greenery picks and glue them around the wreath adding depth and dimension to the wreath.
  8. Fill in between the houses with the bottle brush trees evenly distributing the colors around the wreath.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Add a personalized touch to the houses by making them look like your neighbors or friends houses along with matching peg people.
