SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 8"x10" Foam Sheet, Orange
  • 8"x10" Foam Sheets, Green (2)
  • Craft Knife
  • Glue
  • 3-4mm Hollow Hole Punch or 1-Hole Punch
  • Orange Yarn
  • Yarn Needle
  • Egg-Shaped Foam Pieces, 2
  • Glue
  • Ruler
  • Yarn, Assorted Colors
  • Yarn Needle

DIRECTIONS:

To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.

CARROTS:

  1. Cut out the full carrot shape from the green foam, then trace the bottom onto the orange and the top onto the green, cut out and glue together.
  2. Use the hole punch to add holes around the carrot.
  3. Thread the yarn Needle with yarn and weave through the holes.

EGGS:

  1. Glue two egg-shaped foam pieces together for better stability.
  2. Use the Hollow Hole Punch to make holes intuitively over the surface of the egg, or use the ruler to draw a grid on the back of the egg, and create a more measured hole design.
  3. You can make a more elaborately designed egg by using several colors of yarn and making varied lines of pattern across the egg. Or simply start one pattern and cover the whole egg! Leaving some holes open creates a dotted effect.

JOANN HACKS:

  • For the carrots, or any design that would only need holes around the edges of the foam, you can use a 1-hole punch to make the holes in the foam. With an inexpensive 1-hole punch, bend the metal tab guard flat so that you can easily slide the foam in. Kids can easily make their own holes in the foam using the 1-hole punch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only the carrot pattern download is given My kids were excited to do this when we saw the image online. My younger son wanted to do a carrot, while my older daughter wanted to make several eggs for her friends. I downloaded the pattern, but it only gives one page which includes the carrot bottom and top and the whole carrot. I thought maybe we could just use the carrot bottom for the eggs, but they are much larger than what you see in the finished image, and not well shaped for eggs. That was a disappointment to my daughter, so I will have to go elsewhere for a smaller egg pattern, which shouldn’t be too difficult, just annoying that it wasn’t included in this project.
