DIRECTIONS:

STITCH EXPLANATIONS:
BPdc (Back Post double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from back to front then to back, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip top of st in front of the BPdc.
dc2tog (dc 2 sts together) (Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.
FPdc (Front Post double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from front to back then to front, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip top of st behind the FPdc.
FPsc (Front Post single crochet) Insert hook from front to back then to front again, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook. Skip top of st behind the FPsc.

NOTES:
Bag is made from a rectangle that is folded and seamed.
Rectangle is worked back and forth in rows from side to side beg and ending with rows of ribbing for sides of Bag. A spider web lace pattern is worked along center of rectangle, between the ribbed edges.
Edging is worked around top opening of Bag then flap is worked back and forth in rows.
Strap is worked separately and joined to Bag with D-rings.

Ch 50.
Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as dc) and in each ch across - you will have 48 dc in this row.

SIDE RIBBING:
Rows 2 and 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, * FPdc around next st, BPdc around next st; rep from * to last st, dc in top of beg ch-3.

BODY:
Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, dc in next 10 sts, * ch 3, sk next 2 sts, dc in next 10 sts; rep from * to last st, dc in top of beg ch-3 - 42 dc and 3 ch-3 sps.

SEWING:
Fold rectangle in half, folding down the middle of the rows so that ribbing forms the side edges of the Bag.
Sew side edges together.

TOP EDGING AND FLAP:
From RS, draw up a loop of yarn in one side seam at top of Bag.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, work 66 sc evenly spaced around top edge; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first sc.
Do not fasten off.

FLAP:
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), sk same sc as joining sl st, working in back loops only, dc in next 32 sts - 33 dc.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, BPdc around each of next 2 sts, dc in next 27 sts, BPdc around each of next 2 sts, dc in top of beg ch-3.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, FPdc around each of next 2 sts, dc2tog, dc in next 23 sts, dc2tog, FPdc around each of next 2 sts, dc in top of beg ch-3 - 31 sts.
Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, sk first st, BPdc around each of next 2 sts, dc2tog, dc in next 21 sts, dc2tog, BPdc around each of next 2 sts, dc in top of beg ch-3 - 29 sts.

STRAP:
Ch 81.
Rnd 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 9 ch, hdc in next 5 ch, dc in next 50 ch, hdc in next 5 ch, sc in next 9 ch, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of foundation ch, sc in next 9 ch, hdc in next 5 ch, dc in next 50 ch, hdc in next 5 ch, sc in next 9 ch, 2 sc in same ch as first sc; join with sl st in first sc.
Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Slide a D-ring onto one end of Strap. Fold Strap end over ring to WS of Strap and sew in place.
Rep to attach second D-ring to opposite end of Strap.
Sew D-rings to sides of top of Bag.
With sewing needle and thread, sew buttons to front of Bag, opposite buttonholes on flap.
Weave in ends.
