SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Fabric stated on pattern envelope
  • 1 3/4yd additional mesh fabric for added ruffles
  • 2yds additional satin fabric for added ruffles
  • Kraft paper, pencil

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Seams are 5/8" unless noted.
  2. Trace sleeve pattern onto Kraft paper. Cut and separated into 4 sections, spread each section 1 1/4". Gather cap of sleeve to measure dress arm hole.
  3. Cut out 3 pattern #8 of satin for bottom tiered ruffle to match mesh ruffle.
  4. Cut out 3 additional #8 pattern for middle tiered ruffle of mesh and satin.
  5. Cut out an additional pattern #1 and #3 out of satin as a lining to attach lower two tiered ruffles.
  6. Trace pattern #1 and #3 onto Kraft paper. Measure pattern #1 from center back down 9 1/2", 4 1/2" down from under arm, connect markings. Mark 3 vertical lines from neckline and spread back to equal 27".
  7. Measure pattern #3 from center front down 7", 4 1/2" from underarm, connect markings. Mark 3 vertical lines from neckline and spread front to equal 27". Gather neckline, shoulder to fit original neckline and shoulder to pattern. Sew under lining, gathered mesh and satin to finish with pattern instructions.
  8. Sew together back and front tiered side seams of middle and bottom tiers, gathering tiered mesh, satin together, serge top raw edges. Attach gathered middle tier to bodice marked lines.
  9. Attach lower tiered ruffle to bottom.
  10. Attach gathered sleeve.
  11. Hem with a turn and turn hem to satin tiers.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

  • Using a Ball Point #14 sewing machine needle will help with any skipped stitches.
  • Hemming mesh is not necessary in most garments. Mesh does not ravel and puckers if hemmed.
