Glow-in-the-Dark Pillows with Trim (12"x16" tassel, 18"pom-pom, 14" piped pumpkin)

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 yd flannel fabric (for 12"x16" pillow)
  • 2 yds tassel trim (for 12"x16" pillow)
  • 1 yd flannel fabric (for 18" pillow)
  • 2 1/4 yds pom-pom trim (for 18" pillow)
  • 1 yd flannel fabric (for pumpkin pillow)
  • 1 yd piping filler (for pumpkin pillow)
  • 1/2 yd flannel fabric (for pumpkin pillow)
  • Sewing machine with zipper foot
  • 2 bags 20oz Poly-Fil (will fill all 3 pillows) or (1/2) 20oz bag for pumpkin and 2 finished pillow forms for envelope pillows
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Serger or pinking shears
  • Pumpkin pillow template (1/2" seam allowance included)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. For 12"x 16" tassel pillow
  2. Cut (1) 17"x13" rectangle and (2) 13"x11" rectangles out of flannel fabric.
  3. Finish each (1) 11" edge of smaller rectangle with 1/2" hem.
  4. Overlap finished edges of smaller rectangles (right side to wrong side) to create 17" wide envelope back and baste into place.
  5. Apply tassel trim to all four edges of pillow front.
  6. Sew pillow front to back RST and trim seam allowances to scant 1/4" using serger or pinking shears.
  7. Turn pillow right-side out and press well. Stuff with Poly-Fil or pre-finished pillow form.
  8. For 18" pom-pom pillow:
  9. Cut (1) 19" square and (2) 19"x13" rectangles out of flannel fabric.
  10. Finish each (1) 13" edge of smaller rectangle with 1/2" hem.
  11. Overlap finished edges of smaller rectangles (right side to wrong side) to create 19" wide envelope back and baste into place.
  12. Apply pom-pom trim to all four edges of pillow front. Clip into trim to pivot around corners.
  13. Sew pillow front to back RST and trim seam allowances to scant 1/4" using serger or pinking shears.
  14. Turn pillow right-side out and press well. Stuff with Poly-Fil or pre-finished pillow form.
  15. For pumpkin pillow:
  16. Cut 2 pumpkin shapes using template (cut 2 on fold).
  17. Cut a 36"x2" strip out of piping flannel (will have to piece). Press in half WST, with long-sides touching. Slide piping filler into fold and baste close to piping with zipper foot.
  18. Apply piping to outer edge of one pumpkin shape, stopping 2" before start of piping. Cut piping 4" longer than what would be used to close the gap. Open longer end of piping 4". Trim filler to length needed to close gap in piping. Fold longer length in half and lay over shorter length of piping, to enclose. Finish sewing piping to edge.
  19. Sew piped pumpkin to other pumpkin piece RST, leaving 3" hole for turning. Turn piece right-side out and stuff with Poly-Fil. Slipstitch turning hole closed.

Glow-in-the-Dark Throw Instructions (32"x66")

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2 yd flannel fabric
  • 2 yds fleece fabric (for backing)
  • 1 yd flannel fabric (for 18" pillow)
  • 6 yds pom-pom trim
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine with walking foot

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut 33"x67" rectangle out of both flannel and fleece fabric.
  2. Apply pom-pom trim to all sides of flannel rectangle. Stop 1/2" before each corner and clip into seam allowance to pivot trim around corners.
  3. Sew flannel rectangle to fleece rectangle RST, leaving 4" hole for turning. Trim seam allowance to scant 1/4".
  4. Turn piece right-side out and press well. Topstitch 1/4" around all edges. Topstitch a line through all layers every 11" to quilt all flannel and fleece together.
