Holiday Aprons and Pot Holders

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 yd. - For apron and straps.
  • 1/3 yd. - contrast for pockets and top neck strap option.
  • 2 - 1" D-rings , 1 - Overall Buckle, or 3" velcro (options for neck strap)
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
  • 1 yd. - For apron and straps.
  • ½ yd - contrast fabric for pockets
  • ¼ yd ea. - main fabric, contrast, binding and fusible interfacing for the potholder
  • 1 - 1" grommet

    Kids Apron
  1. Cut 1 - apron pattern on fold of fabric.
  2. Cut 3 - 24" x 2" strips for neck strap and side ties.
  3. Cut 1 - 3" square for tab.
  4. Press under side arm of apron 1/4" press and again 1/4". Top stitch.
  5. With RST, fold neck strap and side ties in half lengthwise and stitch 1/4" seam on length and one short side.
  6. Turn and press. Top stitch close to edges.
  7. Three ways to finish top:
  8. On outside pin the neck strap to the upper side of apron top having raw edges even, and baste.
  9. Fold the tab in half RST and stitch 1/4" seam. Turn and press
  10. Slip the D-rings through the tab and fold. Pin to opposite side of apron top with raw edges even and baste
  11. Fold top of apron under 1/2" press, and again 1/2", press including the strap and tab in fold.
  12. Stitch across the top of apron 1/2" from edge.
  13. Stitch over the strap and tab again close to the edge.
  14. OR - after sewing the neck strap to top of apron, insert the neck strap through the Overall Buckle. And attach the button to the top of the apron according to package directions omitting the tab.
  15. OR - Cut one piece of velcro 3".
  16. Sew smooth piece to strap end and loop piece to the top of apron omitting the tab.
  17. Pin the two side ties to the side of apron having raw edges even and baste in place.
  18. Fold sides and bottom 1/2" press, and again 1/2" press, including folding the strap.
  19. Stitch around sides and bottom 1/2" from edge.
  20. Stitch again over ties close to the edge.
  21. Two sizes for pockets
  22. For pockets: cut 2 - 5 1/2" x 10" from contrast fabric.
  23. With RST, fold each pocket in half stitch around 1/4" leaving an opening for turning.
  24. Turn and press.
  25. Center pockets on front of apron and stitch sides and bottom close to edge of pockets.
  26. OR - cut 1 - 9" x 11 1/2"
  27. With RST, fold long pocket in half, stitch around 1/4" leaving an opening for turning.
  28. Turn and press.
  29. Center pocket on front and stitch sides and bottom close to edge.
  30. Mark the center of pocket and stitch down front forming two sides.

    Mens Apron
  1. Cut 1 - 24" wide x 22" long.
  2. Cut 3 - 6" x 36" for waistband and ties.
  3. Fold sides and bottom 1/2" press, and again 1/2" press.
  4. Top stitch around three sides 1/2" from edge.
  5. Sew the 3 ties together..
  6. With RST, fold ties in half lengthwise.
  7. Find center of ties and place a pin.
  8. Measure 12" on both sides of the pin and place another pin.
  9. Sew 1/2" seam starting at the short edge, across the length of ties, stopping and starting at the two pins.
  10. Turn and press.
  11. Insert the apron 1/2" into the opening of waist band and pin.
  12. Starting at waistband opening, stitch around waistband and ties 1/4" from edges
  13. Cut 2 - 8" x 18" from contrast pockets fabric.
  14. Fold the pockets RST and stitch around 1/2" leaving an opening for turning.
  15. Turn and press.
  16. Pin the pockets to front of apron and stitch in place 1/4" around each pocket leaving top open.

    Pot Holders
  1. Cut 2 pot holder pattern from main fabric and interfacing
  2. Cut 2 - pocket pattern from contrast fabric and interfacing.
  3. Fuse the interfacing to each.
  4. Cut 1 - 2" WOF for binding.
  5. With WST for main potholder, baste raw edges together.
  6. With WST for contrast pocket, baste raw edges
  7. From binding fabric, fold 1/4" and press on both long sides.
  8. With WST, fold binding in half lengthwise and press.
  9. Pin binding along top of pocket and stitch in place, trim edges.
  10. Pin pocket to potholder having bottom raw edges even and baste.
  11. Pin and sew binding around outside edges of potholder and pocket.
  12. In corner of potholder insert grommet according to package directions.
  13. Cut 1 - 1" x 8" for tie.
  14. Press 1/4" in on both sides of tie.
  15. Fold in half and press.
  16. Top stitch close to edge on tie.
  17. Insert through grommet and tie.
