  • *Or two Swivel Hooks and 2 sets of D-Rings instead

  • MEASUREMENTS: Bag, 9"x 11". Crossbody strap, 49". Wrist strap, 6" loop.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut Fabric as the Following:
    • Straps and D-Ring loops, two 45"x 2 1/4"
    • Bias tape, one 20"x 2"
    • Top front & back, two 11"x 7"
    • Position fabric so that visible print for outside top of bag lands between 1/2" and 3 1/2" from bottom of fabric (1/2" hem and above 3 1/2" will be folded to the inside of the bag) and centered side to side (1/2" on either side will be covered with bias tape).

  2. Top Front & Back
    • Fold bottom edge back 1/2". Press. Fold WST in half matching folded edges. Press. Repeat. Attach zipper to front & back, RS of zipper to WS of top (top of print closest to zipper). Line up folded edge of top close to zipper teeth, zipper pull 1" from short end of fabric. Use a zipper foot to sew close to zipper stopping stitching 1" from opposite raw end of fabric. Sew again close to outer edge of fabric of zipper. Repeat.

  3. D-Ring Loops
    • Cut one 5" of 2 1/4" fabric. Fold 5" edge back 1/2". Press. Fold opposite 5" edge back 1/2". Press. Fold WST in half lengthwise matching folded edges. Press. Open one side. Place one 5" of 1/2" batting under fold. Refold. Sew close to each edge. Cut length to two 2 1/2" lengths. Thread end through D-Ring. Fold fabric in half matching raw ends. Place raw ends of loop flush with side of front top fabric, 3/4" down from top of fabric, on outer layer of fabric only. Sew 1/4" from raw edges. Repeat, placing the tab on the opposite side of the back top panel.
    • Attach vinyl to top front & back: Lay one 11" edge of vinyl centered on top of 1/2" bottom fold at back of front. Line up cut edge of vinyl with raw edge of fabric. Use tape to hold in place. Sew from fabric side close to fold of fabric. Remove tape. Match folded edges of front and back fabric layers of front. Sew 1/4" from folded edges of fabric. This will encase the vinyl top edge between layers of fabric. Repeat to attach opposite end of vinyl to back. This will create a loop. WST baste fabric only sides of bag together close to edges matching bottom edges of fabric.

  4. Bias Tape
    • Fold each short end back 1/2". Press. Fold each long edge back to center then fold in half. Press. Cut length in half. Open short end fold of tape. Lay one folded length under bottom edge of side of bag lining up center fold of bias tape with side of bag. Fold short end fold over bag. Fold opposite folded side of bias tape over of side of bag. This should create a crisp corner on the bag. Use fabric clips to hold the bias tape in place. Fold length of bias tape over side of bag lining up center fold with cut edges of vinyl and fabric. Fold end of tape same as start. Sew close to edges of tape. Add a second line of stitching close to outer edge of tape. Repeat.

  5. Crossbody Strap
    • RST overlap ends of 2 1/4" strips perpendicular to one another making sure that when strips are sewn print will run the same direction. Sew at a diagonal to join. Trim 1/4" from seam. Press seam open. Cut length to 53" (reserve remaining for wrist strap). Fold each short end back 1/2". Press. Fold each long edge back 1/2". Press. Fold in half lengthwise matching folded edges. Press. Open one side and ends. Place 1/2" strip of batting under folds. Refold. Sew close to each edge. Thread end through loop on swivel hook. Fold end back over length of strap 1 1/2". Sew across width 1/4" from either end of overlap section also over original stitching on length. Repeat. Attach hooks to D-Rings on bag.

  6. Wrist Strap
    • Cut one 13" length of remaining 2 1/4" strip. Fold and insert batting same as crossbody strap. Thread one end through loop on swivel hook. Fold end back over length of strap 1 1/2". Lay opposite end of strap 1/4" from swivel hook loop, length covering 1 1/2" overlap strap section. Sew across width and length same as crossbody strap. Attach hook to D-Ring on zipper pull side of bag.

JOANN HACKS:

  • When sewing vinyl use a long stitch length. Short stitch length may cause vinyl to rip at seams.
  • Use a continuous stroke when cutting vinyl to avoid burrs on the cut edges.
  • When adding batting to the length of crossbody strap two pieces of batting may be used. Overlap ends of batting by 1/2" - 3/4".
  • The length of the crossbody strap may be adjusted. After bag is constructed determine the appropriate length by placing the bag at the desired location at the side of body. Use a sewing tape measure to measure from one loop on swivel hook across the front of the body, over the shoulder and back across the back of the body to the loop on the swivel hook on the opposite side of the bag. Add 5" to determine cut length of fabric. Follow above directions for construction of strap using the new cut length.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice easy pattern I thought it was relatively easy to put together. And for those of you wondering, RST and WST are short for "Right Sides Together" and "Wrong Sides Together"

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Instructions I would love to make several of these Stadium Bags but the instructions are so poorly written that I have crossed it off my list of "to do's". They use the abbreviation WSR many times and I haven't a clue as to what they are referring. Diagrams would have been helpful. If I could have given this pattern zero stars, I would have.
